Our Wish List of Everyday Needs!

The Family Violence Center shelter has the same needs as your own home. Think of what you buy on a weekly basis and multiple that by 40 families and you will have what we need for our shelter. Everyday needs such as food, toilet paper, personal care items, dental care items etc. Perhaps you could spend one day tracking what you use and need for normal, everyday living, then write it down and perhaps when you go to the store, you can pick up two - one for you and one for the shelter women and children. The Family Violence Center has some suggestions of items listed below. They go to the people we serve and to the programs and services which directly affect our clients. Generally, these items are always needed due to our ever changing client base. Don't panic viewing the list and say that there is no way you can get all of these things. Pick out one or two and get just those. If everyone donates just a little; it will add up to a lot. We also have needs for certain items at specific times of the year such as holidays, back to school and other times. We have several ways you can help our shelter with our needs. Click on the links to see list of items. You might consider having a "Starting Over Shower". Starting Over Shower     Click on link to take you to item list. Call and get a group of friends together, have a shower, have fun and help women and children starting a new life at the same time. How about having a "Linen Shower". Linen Shower     Click on link to take you to item list. What fun it would be to have a shower at your work, church, organization or in your home and invite friends or family for a time of sharing. You could look at all the beautiful items and who knows, maybe get some ideas for your home decor while helping women and children fleeing domestic violence. Or you might consider having a "Baby Shower". Baby Shower     Click on link to take you to list. You could have a great time "ohhing and ahhing" over the cute baby items and help the little babies who come into our shelter. Now for our "Everyday" center needs. Our everyday needs include paper products, food, clothing, furniture, office supplies, cleaning products, medical, personal care, dental care and other items. *CASH DONATIONS*: The center can ALWAYS use cash donations. It takes a comprehensive amount of $57.00 a day to shelter one person. If you contribute $100.00 or more per year, you could be eligible for the Missouri State Tax Credit. You would get 50% of whatever amount you annually donate ($100.00 or more) off your Missouri tax. Call 417-837-7700 and ask for Dori to get more information.
